Leker late show puts Westdene through

On the couple of occasions that Westdene beat the offside trap, keeper Andrew Niman kept them out with some excellent one-handed saves, tipping the ball over the bar and then round the post.

Wesdene took the lead on the half hour mark when Daniel Selwyn scored directly from a corner sailing the ball high above the keeper's head into the net.

Crumpsall regrouped at the break and came out fighting determined to get back into it. This they did with a powerful run from Matt Jacobs who burst through the midfield and curled a ball beautifully into the top right hand corner.

Crumpsall continued to play well creating some good chances as the Westdene defence struggled to cope with Zeev Landsman and Ben Gardner's resurgent running.

Crumpsall thought they hat taken the lead 20 minutes from time when Yossi Saunders chested a Jacobs cross into the net but to the surprise of many including Westdene he ruled it offside.

This woke Westdene up a little and as Crumpsall tired they upped the tempo. But once again Zevi Saunders and Moishe Cohen stood resolutely firm to keep them out.

In fact, Crumpsall broke away and when Saunders crossed in the middle, Landsman was about to head home but somehow Yochai Zorno got his head to it first.

As the tension was mounting especially on the Westdene bench with tempers flaring up, it was left to Leker to poke home from a corner after the keeper had spilled it.

Crumpsall could not find a response and it is Westdene who celebrated at the final whistle.
