Ian Selwyn admits his Leeds Maccabi 1st side face a trip into the unknown when they take on Cuedos Rangers in this weekend’s Leeds and District Sunday Jubilee Cup clash.
Cuedos defeated Leeds Maccabi 2nd in the opening round but remain a mystery to Selwyn, who has not watched the Bradford-based side this season.
But Selwyn, who won this competition as a player, says he his team will be raring to go on Sunday.
“We don’t know anything about Cuedos apart from what colour kit they play in,” he said.
“But we’re going to be at full strength for the game and everybody is looking forward to it.
“I won this cup as a player with Leeds Maccabi and it is something no other Jewish team has done or will ever do again.
“It’s an important trophy,we want to do well and hopefully we can get through.”
Selwyn was part of the Maccabi side which defeated Cavalier FC 5-1 to lift the trophy for the first and only time 13 years ago.
But it’s the Peter Morrison Trophy which Leeds really want to get their hands on with next weekend’s fixture against Haroldeans looming on the horizon.
“The Peter Morrison Trophy is the one we all really want to win,” he added.
“I’ve lost in four Morrison finals and no team from Leeds has ever won the competition.
“But we’ve got a difficult game this weekend to think about first and then we’ll prepare for what will be a really tough match against Haroldeans.”
