Steven Berke says Leeds Maccabi 1st must overcome the loss of key players if they are to challenge for silverware next season.

After narrowly missing out on the Alliance Premier Division title, Leeds, managed by Ian Selwyn, have started a nationwide recruitment drive as they target double success in the Peter Morrison Trophy, a competition they reached the last eight of in 2012 before tumbling out at the hands of losing finalists Oakwood.

Berke said: “We’ve got a cracking group of lads and some top class players in the team. The whole squad is entirely committed to the cause and we can’t wait for pre-season to begin.

“Some of our key players have moved to London over the last couple of years and we haven’t managed to replace them. We’re looking at local talent to come and bolster the side but in addition, we’re actively targeting the best Jewish players at Leeds University to come and join us at training to try out for the side.
