The lead was doubled 10 minutes later after Gilman calmly slotted home from close range.
Scholes Suelo hit back soon after when a speculative shot from the half way line from somehow found it’s way to an unmarked striker who scored to make it 2-1.
Just before half time, Marcus Edge got on the end of header from Vale to put the home side 3-1 up going in at the break.
The second half started the same as the first half, with Leeds enjoying good spells of possession and threatening to seal the game early on. However a missed penalty from Maccabi, followed by a lapse in concentration in the Leeds defence meant that the game was soon well poised at 3-2.
It wasn’t long though before normal service was resumed, with Richard Black, making his first appearance of the season with a man-of-the-match performance, putting the home side 4-2 up.
Tim Zoltie then converted from the penalty spot after he was brought down inside the area, to make it 5-2 and effectively end the tie. However, credit to Scholes Suelo, they battled right to the end and were rewarded with a goal for their efforts.
The game ended 5-3 with Leeds Maccabi progressing, more comfortably than the final score suggested, into the next round.
