And Selwyn, whose side lost just three league games all term, is now hoping his side can power their way to the league crown next year.

"We've only had two poor performances in the league all season,” he said.

"I know all managers can look back at the end of the season and say, 'what if?' but that's gone now and we have to look to next season.

"We want to do better in the league and also have another crack at the Peter Morrison Trophy because we know we can do well in that.

"But the players have really ended the season very well and that's encouraging."

AFC Waggon required just a point against Maccabi to win the league title and made the perfect start when they moved ahead after just 20 minutes.

But the hosts were soon level after Bitton-Price stroked home from the penalty spot after Dan Ross had been sent sprawling inside the area.

Woolman then fired Leeds ahead just before the break after leading the Waggon defence a merry dance and firing past the keeper.

With the visitors frantically searching for an equaliser, Leeds were forced to defend for long periods but their resistance was finally broken with 15 minutes remaining as Waggon drew level.

That goal looked to have secured the championship for Waggon but the home side had other ideas and two late strikes by Jackson and Zoltie handed the crown to New Unicorn FC.

"AFC Waggon were probably the best team in the league this season," added Selwyn.

"But we had two choices. To let them win and enjoy their champagne or to stand up, fight and make sure we did the league proud and finished third.

"That's what we did and I'm very proud of the boys."
