Leeds Maccabi boss Ian Selwyn was lost for words following his side’s meek exit from the Leeds & District Sunday Cup.
Despite missing six first team regulars, Selwyn expected his side to put up a fierce fight against Batley Irish Nash for a place in the last 16.
But a dreadful first-half performance allowed the home side to race into a four-goal lead and leave Selwyn shellshocked.
“Batley were a decent side but we simply weren’t up for it,” he said.
“I know we had players missing, but we still had enough quality in our team to deal with them. We got it all wrong.
“It was a really poor team performance. Batley had some good players but they weren’t anything we couldn’t have coped with.
“The team I put out there had enough about them to go and win the game, but they just didn’t do it.”
Maccabi did improve after the break with Mark Korn, Adam Gilman and Josh Rose all going close but they failed to find a way past a stubborn Batley backline.
And the home side rubbed salt in Maccabi’s wounds when a lightning quick counter-attack resulted in a fifth and final goal.
“There weren’t any real positives but we have to take it on the chin,” said Selwyn.
“We have to move on and look to bounce back next week.”
