Israel’s Hanna Knyazyeva-Minenko had to settle for fifth place in the triple jump final.
Knyazyeva-Minenko jumped 14.2 meters in her first attempt, matching the length that got her into the finals but the eighth best length among other finalists.
She improved her distance to 14.39m on her second jump to move up to sixth place.
Her next jump was measured at 14.32 before jumping 14.68m, her best attempt, to catapult her up to fifth place.
The World Championship silver medallist's fifth jump was scratched and her final jump was measured at 14.33 in a competition won by Colombia's Caterine Ibarguen after leaping 15.17m.
Knyazyeva-Minenko, who became an Israeli citizen in 2013 and relocated to the country after marrying a former Israeli decathlon champion, placed fourth in the 2012 London Olympic Games, when she represented Ukraine.
Elsewhere, Maor Tiyouri ended the women’s marathon in 90th place out of 133 finishers, while Korlima Chemtai retired towards the end. Tiyouri clocked a time of 2:47.27 hours.
Misha Zilberman became the first Israeli to win an Olympic match in badminton. He beated Yuhan Tan of Belgium 2-0 (22-20, 22-12) before being knocked out of the event after being pipped by Chen Tien Chou to first place in the group.
