Michael Klinger is adamant his Redbacks side can become a force in the Sheffield Shield cricket – despite suffering a nightmare end to the season.
The Redbacks finished second from bottom in the league following a four-wicket defeat by Tasmania.
Klinger enjoyed a successful season in the Twenty20 competition after leading the side to their first trophy in 15 years following victory in the Australian Big Bash.
The former Melbourne Maccabi man impressed enough to earn a lucrative deal with Indian Premier League side Kochi ahead of this year's tournament.
Playing again following an arthroscopy on his knee, Klinger, 30, says that he is determined to help the Redbacks improve in the longer format of the game ahead of the new season.
"We've got the talent in our group here. I think this year we just didn't perform well," he said. "Our Shield season was below par. We want to be playing a lot better cricket. In saying that, there's three competitions and we won one of them and that's what a lot of people are forgetting."
