Paul Coburn has shot to fame with back-to-back stand-out performances

Potters Bar member Paul Coburn completed a memorable month by following up his performance at the Glancy with another strong showing a the Junior National competition.

At the Glancy, Coburn obliterated the field to win both the individual trophies — the lowest gross score and the lowest net score — and helped his team to win its biggest haul of trophies since 1955.

His win had the organisers scrambling for the record books, and as far as anyone can establish, he is the youngest individual winner of the lowest gross score trophy and highest handicapped player ever to win it.

Not bad for a 20-year-old who was playing off a handicap of eight, and was up against the cream of Jewish golfers from across GB and Ireland, with 18 clubs and societies taking part.
