Maccabi GB Futsal took seven points from a possible 12 at the University of East London's Sportsdock arena, on Matchday Four of the National Futsal League Southern Division Two.
The highlight of the day was the outstanding debuts of east London schoolboy duo, Scott Kashket and Sam Sollosi.
In their first match of the day Maccabi GB overcame Reading Futsal 6-5. In what was to become a frustrating theme for the day Maccabi pulled back a half time deficit (1-3) and produced a scintillating second half display. The goals came from an own goal - following a well-improvised Goldstein corner, a brace apiece from Scott Kashkett and Russell Goldstein plus a last-minute winner from Ben Sollosi.
Maccabi GB reserved probably their worst performance of the entire competition for the first half of their game against second placed Gloucester Futsal Revolution. Within minutes of the start Maccabi were three goals behind thanks to some very poor decision-making. In all fairness they clawed there way back in to the game with goals from Jamie Wolfson (a well-angled shot following a mazy run) and Kashkett only for Gloucester to hammer the final nail in Maccabi's coffin with seven minutes to go to make it 4-2.
The third game of the day was against league leaders Kaunas. Once again a very soft first half display saw Maccabi go in 3-0 down at half time and with it, seemingly any chance of avoiding defeat. However Cohen's half time request to his players to take responsibility for their actions was met with a whirlwind second half display. David Leiwy - who has impressed immensely in his debut season - pulled a goal back with a poked effort four minutes in to the second half.
The two baby faced debutants, Kashkett and Sam Sollosi were causing mayhem against a very strong eastern European team. Kashkett's dazzling dribbles were leaving the Matchday hosts chasing shadows and it was from one of these runs that another cynical challenge led to a penalty from which the Chigwell youngster made no mistake. Kaunas were now on five fouls and with only a minute left on the clock Kashkett was again upended. This meant a free shot from the second penalty spot. Kashkett once again got up and dusted himself down to dispatch - with ease - the shot from 10 metres to the despairing keeper's right hand side.
Maccabi had achieved a minor miracle and this was met with huge jubilation from the Maccabi squad and their travelling fans as the final whistle signalled an amazing comeback - final score 3-3.
In the last game of the day yet another poor start meant that Maccabi were once against up against it. In response to Maccabi hotshot Jonathan Green's opener, Plymouth bounced back to go 3-1 up. Having been in this position for what seemed a lifetime, Maccabi once again roiled their sleeves up and eventually rode out 5-3 winners with further goals from the Sollosi brothers Ben and Sam, Russell Goldstein and Leiwy. Ben Sollosi had an exceptional game and was unlucky not to add to his tally.
On a day of mixed emotions, Maccabi GB Futsal team manager Jonathan Cohen reflected: "On the one hand, there are so many positives to come out of today - in particular the magnificent debuts of Scott Kashkett and Sam Sollosi. Then there is also the huge character the team showed in coming from behind on so many occasions.
"However, there is also an underlying feeling of frustration that we could have achieved so much more had we kept our concentration up the whole time.
"The team is in an embryonic state and all the time we are learning about this wonderful game. We have one matchday left in Gloucester on April 29 and I hope to take a big squad there and once again prove to all that we are the best futsalling team in this league."
