JEWDINESE 7 KING CROWN 1
As Sundays go, this was a very good one for Jewdinese who romped to victory in the battle of the new boys with a convincing 7-1 routing of King Crown.
Simply put, an exciting display for the 17 fans that came to support the Zebras on Sunday’s game in which they really got their money's worth. Jewdinese opened the scoring with a great header from Sim Cohen delivered by Mr Assists Joe Meisel.
Things got even better when Brad Dryer scored a goal of the season contender when he unleashed a strike from the halfway line to beat the keeper who was off his line.
Indeed King Crown had a few players missing so had to start the game with 10 men, and when their keeper got injured Jewdines knew it was their day. Cohen, who has been a rock in the middle of the park this season, played a superb ball over King Crown’s defensive line to put Jake Erlich through on goal in which a fake shot sent the keeper the wrong way leaving him with an easy finish.
Jewdinese continued to dominate, with great midfield play from Erlich, Rhodes, Cohen, Meisel and Berrick causing real problems for King Crown.
There was very little that Darren Lawrence could criticise at half time except that Jewdinese were "trying to play the long ball too often". With Darren’s feedback on board, Jewdinese went into the second half confident of finishing the game off. Two substitutes at half-time meant that Zac Brin was replaced with Ashley Lawrence and Joe Meisel was replaced with Harry Marks.
The second half started slow and Jewdinese lost their rhythm, conceding an early goal courtesy of Jewdinese right back Adam Dousie scoring an own goal.
From then on the game was all Jewdinese and Ashley Lawrence managed to bag his first of the season performing one of the greatest celebrations of all time - running the length of the pitch to celebrate with his son who was unsurprisingly more interested in the climbing frames!
Jewdinese’s day got even better following the dismissal of a King Crown player. Harry Marks got in on the act with a superb strike from outside the box. Almost instantly after coming on Grant Reingold linked up well with winger Jake Erlich who beat the left back and delivered the ball to Ben Berrick who finished a well timed shot to make it 6-1 for the Zebras.
If you thought Jewdinese were done there, super-sub Harry Marks had other ideas. He picked up the ball from another Erlich pass and released a beauty of a strike to send the ball into the top corner and finish what was overall a great day for Jewdinese.
Jewdinese boss Darren Lawrence told JC Sport: “This was an enjoyable game to watch as were in complete control and the result was never in doubt
" I was also very happy for four players scoring their first goals for the club, especially my brother, Ashley, and also fans favourite Harry Marks, who scored the thunderbolts from outside the area.”
