Joe Jacobson has joined Shrewbury Town on a two-year deal.
Jacobson, the former Wales Under 21 captain, joins from League 2 rivals Accrington Town where he made 26 appearances after joining on following an initial loan spell from Oldham Athletic.
He helped Stanley reached the playoff semi-finals last season and was sent off in the second leg defeat against Stevenage Borough – the first red card of his career.
After completing a free transfer switch to the GreenHous Meadow, Jacobson said: "Time will tell if it is a step forward. I think the club has more potential than Accrington and is pushing harder to go forward.
"All due respect to Accrington as they are a great club, I loved it there and the fans were great. I can't thank them enough for giving me the opportunity to prove what I can do."
Jacobson revealed that he had turned down offers from several teams across England and Scotland, and that the reason he chose Shrewsbury was because of "the way they play football and the manager (Graham Turner)".
The former Cardiff defender is excited at the opportunity to help the team move forward.
"They have a new stadium and set up and are pushing to get out of League Two."
Jacobson is also excited at the prospect of working under the vastly experienced Turner, who coached Aston Villa and Wolves in the 1980s before moving to manage Hereford.
"He knows the game inside out, I spoke to people about him before and they only said good things.
"Hopefully he can improve me as a player and get the best out of me."
