VwImbledon Camila Giorgi says she will take a short break from tennis following her third-round defeat against 15th seed Marion Bartoli.
Giorgi, 21, pushed Bartoli all the way but lost her momentum after a break for rain, going down 4-6, 5-7.
The Italian star revealed she had been playing with an injury to her right shoulder, but she impressed in early rounds where she overcame Samantha Murray and 22nd seed Sorana Cirstea.
"I've had tendonitis and bursitis for eight months now and the pain never goes away, she told JC Sport. "I will now stop for one month until my shoulder is okay. I must see a doctor and go from there.”
Asked about rumours that she was considering moving to Israel, she replied: "Not for the moment".
Instead she earned private sponsorship to live in Pembroke Pines, near Boca Raton, where she has been training with her father for the last two years.
Both of Giorgi’s parents are Jewish, from La Plata in Argentina, and her father is a veteran of the Falklands War. Her talents were nurtured by Nick Bollettieri who, in 2000, offered her seven months training as previously done only with Maria Sharapova.
