Israel's golden generation well short in the end

And, yet again, we are left to reflect on another abysmal qualifying campaign as Israel proved incapable of mixing it with Europe's finest.

Much like England, their golden generation has failed to deliver with the Israel FA needing to decide whether or not to dispense with the manager and start all over again.

Following victories over Latvia and Georgia, the glass looked half full. All of a sudden, it looks very empty again and, going by the Under 21 team's 4-1 defeat against England, the signs are that it could be running on empty for some time.

● I know it's early days, but already, things look ominous for Team JLGB. In my season preview, manager Rob Silverman told me that "conceding fewer goals" was high on his list of priorities. Well without wanting to rub salt into the wounds, they could not have got off to a worse start. Sunday's 18-0 defeat against Shirley Park was the heaviest in recent MSFL history.
