The underdogs, who are playing in the tournament for the first time and are ranked 41st in the world, beat Cuba 4-1.

Israel's team, who were the lowest ranked to qualify for the tournament, have become the darlings of the US media after unexpectedly reaching the last eight in Korea.

The game started with Alfredo Despaigne putting Cuba in the lead by 1-0 with a solo home run in the second inning.

Israel tied matters in the third when Ryan Lavarnway ran home after an Ike Davis hit. From the sixth innings onwards, there was only one team in it as Ty Kelly and Nate Freiman scored home runs.
