Yshai Oliel, runner-up in the Boys' Singles at the Australian Open last week, had the honour of playing the first rubber, but he went down 6-1, 6-1, 6-2 against Joao Sousa.

Dudi Sela won the opening set of the second rubber 6-1, but his opponent, Gastao Elia bounced back to win the match 6-2, 6-4, 6-2.

Needing to win third rubber, in the Doubles, to keep the match alive, Sela teamed up with Jonathan Erlich. After losing the first set to Sousa and Elia 5-7, the Israeli duo rallied to win the next two 7-6, 6-4. But they were unable to see out the match as Sousa and Elia stepped up a gear to win the match 6-2, 6-4.

With the tie lost, Daniel Cukierman was given an opportunity by Israel coach Eyal Ran. But he was beaten 6-2, 6-0 by Frederico Ferreira Silva.
