There were familiar failings as Israel slumped to a 3-1 friendly defeat in Serbia on that does not bode well for new manager Elisha Levy's 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Missed chances and a catalogue of defensive errors in Novo Sad cost Israel the game.
Israel were lively at the start, with newly-appointed captain Eran Zahavi and Moanes Dabour squandering chances to give the Blues the lead.
Serbia grabbed their chance in the 36th minute when debutante goalkeeper Dudu Goresh dropped a cross allowing Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic to hit the ball home.
Israel started the second half well and won a penalty after 59 minutes when Ben Sahar was brought down by Liverpool's new signing Marko Grujic. Zahavi fired low into the corner past his Maccabi team mate Predrag Majkovic.
However, Zahavi lost concentration to allow Nemanja Milunovic to score and Southampton's Dusan Tadic completed the scoring three minutes from time with a long-range effort.
Levy said: "Nobody likes to lose any game, especially on their debut. But we will improve and I saw a lot of good things out there that we can work on.
"There were periods when we moved the ball around well and created chances."
Israel begins its World Cup qualifying campaign on September 5 at home to Italy. Spain, Albania, Macedonia and Lichtenstein are also in the group.
