There was heartbreak for Australian sprinter Steve Solomon in Glasgow on Tuesday night as he limped out of the 400m semi-finals with what looked like a hamstring injury.

In only his second competitive race since recovering from a similar problem, the Stanford University student made a promising start in semi-final three, but he pulled up suddenly clutching his thigh.

The Australian champion had started the competition well, finishing his heat in 46:26, but he cut a frustrated figure at Hampden Park in a race won by Lalonde Gordon.

Solomon's involvement in the 4x400m now looks doubtful.
