GARSTON VETS LEAGUE
GARSTON 1 LONDON LIONS 1
A goal from Paul Lenchner saw London Lions leave Bushey with a hard earned shared of the spoils following a high-octane game with perennial title challengers Garston.
The opening exchanges were even, Garston though taking the lead when a fierce strike from 25 yards squirmed beneath the dive of Brad Lee in the Lions goal and nestled in the corner.
Lions reacted well, and when Hadley Silver took aim from the edge of the box his shot beat the keeper but not the post, though Lenchner was in the right place to prod home an equaliser.
Brad Lazarus and Silver both saw shots saved as Lions finished the half the stronger, but the sides went to break all square.
The visitors though struggled to retain that form as the second period settled, but some outstanding defending by the back four, notably through Andy Myers and Adam Myeroff, kept Lions in it.
Lee atoned for his error with a couple of vital saves, although it was Garston's no. 1 with the save of the game, tipping over Danny Piler's piledriver that seemed destined for the top corner.
Both sides huffed and puffed in the latter moments, but neither was able to muster that final clear-cut chance.
In years gone by this would have been a game Lions would have lost against such strong opposition, so credit the group who, even though not on their game fully, dug in to get at least something from the game.
