Just before I left for my summer break, I received a call asking what I knew about Michael Ohana. Next thing I know, the boy is having a trial at Liverpool. Coincidence? I think not …
Just over a year ago Nir Biton was snapped up by Celtic after impressing at the European U21 Championships.
Now the efforts of another top, young Israeli have been noticed, although a move to the Premier League may not be imminent as Michael, I’m told, would struggle to obtain a work permit.
If Brendan Rogers likes what he sees, though, signing the player and loaning him back to MS Ashdod is an option, just as he did with Divock Origi.
* I’ve spent hours on Facebook watching players from the MGBSFL and Maccabi Masters League doing their bit for charity in the ASL Ice Bucket Challenge since returning from Cyprus.
Some tend to fit into their trunks better than others, although images of Daniel Howard in an Ali G style mankini still haunt me.
It’s good to see some referees also doing their bit, including Martin Lavender and Warwick Blake.
I did mine without any issues, but it appears some are struggling with the words ice and bucket, and doing it in hotter climes kind of defeats the object.
* If you think the MGBSFL registration window is busy, you should check out the scene in the Masters League. Players over the age of 33 can compete in both, and managers have been battling it out to get the ones they want.
I’ll be lining up in the colours of Faithfold Masters this season and have persuaded former South Mancs teammate Laurence Keen to join me, assuming we can get him out of Disneyland. Then again, some of Faithfold’s defending was a bit Mickey Mouse last season so he should fit in perfectly.
