Eilon Kennet says he is relishing new challenges after being appointed manager of London Maccabi Lions A for the third time.
During his two previous spells, the first of which he worked alongside Ben Winston, Kennet steered the team to unprecedented success, including two Peter Morrison Trophies, five Cyril Anekstein Cup victories, a league and cup double and the MSFL Manager of the Year accolade.
"It was a very easy decision to make. Lions is a special place for me and if I can emulate the success I’ve had there in the past, I’d be very happy,” Kennet said.
He takes over from Andy Landesberg, the club’s Director of Football, who took charge as interim-manager in November and led the team to the League Cup, working with player-coach James Gershfield.
"Andy has laid down the foundations of what can become a very successful team, so a lot of the ground work has been done," Kennet said.
"Let’s see how things shape up in pre-season training, but I know the team will be a blend of youth and experience and am looking forward to working with James as well."
Off the pitch, it has been a busy close season for the Lions, with Landesberg taking over as manager of the club’s South Midland Spartan League Reserve side. He will work alongside his newly-appointed coach Jon Kurrant.
Landesberg said: "This is such an exciting time for everyone at Lions. With planning permission just being granted for a new stand and floodlighting at Rowley Lane, we are beginning a very new and dynamic era. Eilon returns to his spiritual home and will work closely with Gersh. His experience in this league is second to none. I know both of them will push the MSFL A team on to even bigger and better things.
"When I asked Eilon to come back and join us, I know he didn’t have a second thought, and when we drew up a short list of potential targets, Eilon was at the very top of the list. It is so great to have him back.
"The youngsters that formed the backbone of the Cyril Anekstein Cup win have all agreed to take the next step in their progress to eventually achieving a place in the Lions 1st team in the Spartan Premier League.
