Israel sealed promotion into Division Two of the European Team Championships after winning a 14-team competition in Iceland.

While Britain's top athletes were contesting Division One of the European Team Championships in Stockholm, Israel won the Division Three event, finishing ahead of ahead of Cyprus and Moldova in Reykjavik.

Olga Dogadko overcame adversity to take silver in the 400 metres hurdles. She had her a bag containing her passport stolen at Dusseldorf Airport while she was waiting for her flight to Reykjavik. Her preparations were hampered by two nights without sleep as she rushed to Berlin to find a replacement document.

Israel displayed the greatest dominance in the vertical jumps. Having finished fourth in the triple jump with 12.24 metres a day earlier, Danielle Frenkel won the high jump with a leap of 1.84 metres. Dmitriy Kroyter (2.18 metres) took the men's high jump crown.
