Tottenham Hotspur’s Lewis Holtby scored as Germany overcame their Israeli under-21 counterparts 2-1 at Bloomfield Stadium in Tel Aviv.

The match was the final opportunity for both managers to tinker with their teams ahead of the Uefa European under-21 Championship that is being held in Israel from June 5-18 - the most prestigious sporting event to ever take place in the history of the country.

Speaking to the JC after the game, it was clear how impressed 22-year-old Holtby, signed from Germany club Schalke 04 in the January transfer window, had been with his visit to Israel – something he was told to expect.

"A lot of the Tottenham fans on Twitter were wishing me a great time when I tweeted I was coming here with the national side and they told me I’d love it. I know how Spurs is called the Jewish club and it’s been good to come here. I’ve been made to feel very comfortable – everyone has been extremely friendly."
