Woodford Wanderers returned to action after paying their debts to overturn a suspension and they gave a good account of themselves against league champions but it was not quite enough as a strike from Steve Summers put Redbridge through.
RJC boss Eilon Kennet told JC Sport: "Horrible conditions, with a swirling wind, prevented either side from playing an quality football.
"Despite this, we still should have scored several more goals in the first half, to take into the second half against the wind.
"However, a series of outstanding saves by ex Redbridge goalie, Ben Rosenthal, kept it own to a precarious single goal.
"Full marks to Woodford who tried really hard to overturn the goal, but our defence, with Joel Berg outstanding, remained resolute and never looked like they would be breached.
"It was one of those games where you grit your teeth and do what's necessary to get through it."
Alex Aviram, the Woodford manager, told JC Sport: "We were unfortunate not to come away with something yesterday. It was a strong performance from the Wanderers. We were on the back foot for the first 20 minutes and conceded a sloppy goal. From then on it was solid defending and a string or fabulous saves from ex-Redbridge keeper Ben Rosenthal. He kept us in the game until the break.
"The second half was a different story. With the wind behind us we tried to press for an equaliser but couldn't break down the Redbridge back four.
"Overall Redbridge deserved the win but we walked off with our heads held high knowing we gave last season's double winners a run for there money. A pure example of what potential this club has on there day."
