Michael Herz has been appointed South Manchester Sports Club 3rd team manager.
Herz, who scored the winning goal in the Tony Cohen cup final last season, has decided a move into management at his boyhood club was too good an opportunity to turn down.
Herz said: "This season, I hung up my boots and wiped the dust off my gloves. However that didn't go to well when I got sent off on the second week of the season.
"I've played for South for as long as I can remember and have loved every minute. I want to bring up a young side and get them playing with a smile on their face; after all that's what Jewish football is all about.
"I must apologise to the MJSL as they won't be getting guaranteed £120 this year from my red cards!"
South chairman Jonathan Davis said, "I've watching Michael play for this club since before he could walk. If he gives the same passion and dedication to managing as he did when he played, which I know he will, the 3rd team are in for a treat."
Herz starts his managerial career next weekend as this week's fixture in Leeds has been postponed.
