Hershkorn late show halts Harmen

Around the 30-minute mark Brixton broke away on an incisive counter-attack which led to Brixton player-manager Scott Smith playing the ball into Alon Hershkorn who unleaded a ferocious strike from 30 yards straight into the top corner, leaving goalkeeper Harry Fine helpless.

Brixton battled on through the half as underdogs, winning 50/50s and making sure they didn't let Harmen break their defence down. At the break Brixton deservedly led 1-0.

Both teams came out fighting in the second half, with some outstanding football being displayed from both sides. Fifteen minutes into the secondly half Ben Weinberg picked up the ball on the edge of the Brixton area and weaved his way through the defence before calmly slotting home to make it 1-1.

Brixton goalkeeper Josh Ronson pulled off three magnificent reaction saves to keep the scores level before the referee controversially overruled the linesman on an offside decision against Sam Castle who went on to put the ball in the net to make it 2-1 Harmen.

However, Brixton's heads didn't drop, and with five minutes remaining, James Kaye slid a perfectly-timed through ball to split open the Harmen defence leaving Hershkorn one-on-one with Fine. Hershkorn opened up his body and fired into the bottom corner levelling the scores.

Brixton had a chance to win the game In the dying minutes - Dean Rosenthal turned the defender firing low but Fine made a good save to keep the score at 2-2.

Special mentions have to be made to Paul Shamplina and James Kaye who controlled the midfield, and Alon Hershkorn who now has five goals in four games.

The game really was a battle of the midfield… Shamplina vs Leslie and Smith vs Weinberg …

Brixton fought determinedly for the whole 90 minutes, but a draw was a fair result after a great game of proper football.

Harmen joint-player-manager Sam Castle told JC Sport: "We controlled the game for 90 minutes and should have killed the game in the first 20 minutes.

"We must be more clinical in front of goal, but the signs are good and we will continue to grow as a team. We're still unbeaten and will get better. Bring on Chigwell next week!"
