David Garbacz, the manager of Hendon United Sports Club A, was left scratching his head after his team saw their quadruple hopes crushed in a 7-1 defeat by Lapton FC in the London FA Sunday Intermediate Cup.
A strike from Danny Kon proved little more than consolation as the JC MSFL table-toppers were beaten for only the second time this season.
"This was one of the most bizarre games I have ever watched," said Garbacz. "We found ourselves at the mercy of some brilliant counter-attacking football by Lapton.
"I realise it might sound strange considering the scoreline, but at times today we played some lovely football and on another day could have got a positive result."
FC Team A will play Chigwell Athletic in the last 16 of the Peter Morrison Trophy after defeating fourth division Brady Maccabi B 5-1. A hat-trick from Shai Davidi plus one apiece from Richard Salmon and Jon Breger eased them through.
There was a major shock in the JC MSFL Premier Division where defending champions Redbridge Jewish Care A were humbled 2-0 by rapidly-improving Brady A.
Josh Hershman and Zak Presky wrapped up a memorable win for Josh Rosenfeld's men.
Rosenfeld said: "I was so proud to be there to watch a new team to this division match the champions all over the pitch. It tells us how far we have come within a year."
Lee Cash (2), Marc Lazare and Ben Joseph moved North West Neasden A to within two points of top spot with a 4-0 success over North London Raiders B.
London Maccabi Lions A are also on 21 points after Joey Lazare, Alex Bowman and Yoav Lebens eased them to a 3-0 victory over Southgate Harmen A.
Redbridge B took a big step towards promotion with a 4-2 win at Brixton Old Boys A in Division One. Dan Orgel, Scott Kaye, Adam Goldman and Harrison Grant registered for RJC who have now gone nine games without defeat. Alon Hershkorn and Michael Posner replied for Brixton.
RJC manager Stirling Kay said: "This was always going to be about desire and who wanted it most."
Chigwell Athletic manager Richard Slater praised his players after the 3-0 victory over fellow high-flyers Norstar A. Strikes from Glenn Michaels (2) and Anthony Mendel saw them home.
Slater said: "Our shape, desire and work-rate were all spot on. It's a massive three points."
A hat-trick from Mitch Hahn plus one from Daryl Kay helped lowly Woodford Wanderers beat Montana Boca United 4-3. Montana's goals came through Danny Myers, Darren Cohen and Mitch Green.
Two goals from super-sub Jason Lindsay boosted Oakwood's promotion hopes in a 4-2 thriller against Temple Fortune A. Josh Marks and an own goal accounted for the Fortune goals.
Division Two leaders Camden Park were given a scare by lowly L'Equipe. A brace from Camden's Mike Khalastchi was cancelled out by strikes from L'Equipe player-manager David Prager and Andy Burke.
Faithfold C earned one of the results of the day with a double from substitute Adam Barton and a wonder goal from top-scorer Ben Simons accounting for title-seeking Hendon B. Tali Nevies and Alex Neiss replied.
Glenthorne United A climbed into third position after strikes from with John Lessem, Jordan Sapler, Jamie Crawford and Dan Lipman sealed a 4-2 success over FC Team B.
Division Three leaders Glenthorne B made it nine out of nine with four-goal hero Fabio Revieccio the star man in the 9-0 demolition of Team JLGB. James Rubin (2), Adam Bernstein, Andy Levy and Dan Lassman completed the rout.
Shirley Park continued their march towards promotion with Nicky Plotnek, Ian Bean and Gideon Gold on target in the 3-0 win over Hendon C.
Jeremy Leigh scored his first goal in four years to earn UJIA a point against Los Blancos. Leigh's crucial last-minute effort added to strikes from Assi Avital and Ben Sokel. Adam Hersh, Sami Birnbaum, with a penalty, and Jonny Ison netted for Blancos.
A trademark header from Oli Simons earned Blizzard Storm a much-needed win over Catford & Bromley.
Two more goals from Alex Gilbert took Athletic Bilbaum a point clear at the top of Division Four following a hard-fought 3-2 win over FC Team C.
Ashley Burns (3), Rob Murray, Marc Hecht, Sam Freedman and Jack Bookatz earned SPEC FC a 7-1 victory over Boca Jewniors.
Ben Mandell (3), Andrew Greenwall-Cohen and Jack Wagner steered Athletico Finchley to a 5-1 win over Brixton B.
