Benji Gilbert, Chaim Gothold, Gav Noe and Amit Dinowitz booked Hendon United B a place in the third round of the JC Cyril Anekstein Cup as they breezed past second division London Maccabi Lions B.
Hendon joint-manager Ari Birnbaum said: “We were not at our best even though the score suggests otherwise. Credit to the Lions who kept battling but our experience told in the end.”
Lions’ Frank Steinberg said: “The score flattered Hendon on the amount of possession we enjoyed, but they had goalscorers and we didn’t, and their goalie had a great game.”
Cup holders Hendon United A hammered fourth division Real Life 7-0. Hat-tricks from Avidan Last and Saul Conway plus one from centre half Alex Rosenthal put them through.
Daniel Gordon, Robert Gevertz and an own goal helped Redbridge Jewish Care B past Faithfold B.
Lee Platt (2), Jason Sears, Andrew Shuster, Rob Lerner, Jerome Colmans and Oli Kenner steered Brady Maccabi to an 8-0 victory over Pinner JFC.
Trebles from Jacob Gold and Jonny Blain helped North London Raiders A past Hendon United D 6-3.
North London Raiders B stormed nine points clear at the top of JC MSFL Division Two following a 6-0 win over FC Team B. A second consecutive hat-trick from Steve Bloom together with strikes from Nick Woolf, Dan Hildebrand and Ben Hart completed their seventh win in nine games.
Raiders boss Rob Richman said: “At times we played some very good football. This was a very clinical, professional performance and it was great to see all four strikers in the squad get on the scoresheet.”
Marc Cohen and Ashley Burns lifted Southgate Harmen B into joint-second as they completed a league double over Rapid Banta.
Harmen manager Daniel Sasto commented: “It was our best performance of the season. We fully deserved the points and should have scored six.”
Four goals from red-hot striker Paul Lenchner saw Faithfold C end L’Equipe’s unbeaten run in a 6-3 victory in Division Three. Luke Rind and Steve Moss finished the job. Faithfold finished with 10 men after Joe Levi was sent off following two cautionable offences. Jason Miller, Matt Gilbery and Yoni Conway replied.
Faithfold manager David Garson said: “We were devastating in the first half and could have gone in 6 or 7 up. However, in true Faithfold C style, we almost managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Fair play to L’Equipe who showed fantastic character, upped their game and got back into it well. At 4-3 with a man sent off I was worried.”
L’Equipe manager Gideon Chain said: “We conceded four in the first half and lost our focus, which was extremely unusual for us. We came back hard and fast in the second half but I think in football, results like this happen to even the strongest teams.”
An injury time free-kick from Jeremy Elster edged UJS Norstar A past Zig Zag.
Jewventus claimed their first victory in MSFL football, beating title-chasing Redbridge Jewish Care C 5-3. Louis Taylor (2), Richard Fogelman (2) and Gabriel John broke their duck at match number seven. David Castle, Jake Sanders and Kane Hopps replied.
Gabriel John said: “Write us off at your peril. After four weddings, thankfully no funerals, a few births and no barmitzvahs, we were able to pick our best 11 and at last show the league what we were promising pre-season.”
RJC gaffer Michael Winehouse said: “We were beaten by the better side overall and after three consecutive defeats, we have to bounce back quickly to remain challengers in this division.”
Title rivals Glenthorne United B and UJS Norstar B shared the points after a six-goal thriller. Debutant Daniel Jackson, 16, Jamie Weinrich and David Levy netted for the Thornes. Larry Martin, Adam Seres and Maurice Franks replied.
