Adam Glekin insists Hendon United Sports Club B can still improve after they climbed to second in the MGBSFL second division by completing a league double with a 3-1 victory over Boca Jewniors
James Neidle, Sammy Barron and Ben Blackston completed a good morning's work for Hendon B who came away from their match with Boca with maximum points at Chase Lodge.
Hendon were bright straight from the off, and when Gab Saul's free-kick was spilled by the Boca keeper, captain and centre back Neidle scrambled the ball in to open the scoring.
Neidle was causing havoc at set-pieces with his height, and could have had a hat-trick in the first half hour.
Hendon doubled their lead when Barron scored his first goal for the club, looping a header into the net from a long Benni Sluckis throw.
Hendon continued to create chances and should have been further ahead but had to settle for a 2-0 lead at the break.
Boca improved after the break, but the game was killed as a contest when a loose ball broke to Ben Blackston at the edge of the box and he smashed home a piledriver into the top corner with his weaker right foot, also opening his account for the club.
Boca pulled a goal back late on with an impressive individual goal from Elio Elia, but the result was never really in danger.
Hendon manager Adam Glekin said: "It was far from vintage today, but we'll take the win. As the old cliche goes, there's no easy games in Jewish football!
"I thought we controlled the game in the first half and were by far the better team, it should probably have been four or five.
"The second half was disappointing on our part, I'll take my share of the blame as I'm not sure the substitutions I made helped but the lads also got a bit complacent.
"Next week is a big game against Real Hendon and we'll need to step it up - but I'm sure the sight of seeing Chaim Strom in their line-up will fire a few of the lads up!"
Boca's Anton Nyman told JC Sport: "Pre-match I said if we didn't concede any penalties and own goals we'd probably get something from the game; unfortunately we had a rather slow start and were rather rocked by the first goal which was a rebound from a free-kick.
"Going in 2-0 down to half time was perhaps a harsh reflection on the way we responded, but with two inspired half-time subs we reacted well - despite conceding the third, we fought back hard, got a goal back eventually, and looked like the better team for the last 20 minutes - but it was too little too late."
