Harris was Hendon's two-goal hero, including a stunning Goal of the Season contender, in a game where further strikes from Avi Korman and Dovi Fehler gave new boss Greg Corin just the result he wanted.

Korman opened the scoring after a corner was cleared to the edge of the box. He took the ball down and volleyed into the bottom right-hand corner. A top quality goal.

Fehler doubled the lead after chasing down a short back-pass, showed lightning pace to reach the ball to challenge the keeper, won the ball and then slotted it home.

Man-of-the-match Harris added a third - and without doubt a goal of the season contender already. Ben Lauffer won the ball on the edge of our box and pinged a 40-yard pass to Harris, who took the ball on the run and chipped their goalkeeper from about 40 yards.

And it was Harris who completed the rout, beating the keeper to the ball in a 50/50 and then finished calmly into the empty net.

Hendon's Russ Corin told JC Sport: "We're very happy with the performance against a good young Lions side that I can see troubling some of the top teams this year, particularly once they're back to full strength.

"I thought we looked very threatening moving forward and finished the game off well after a tough first half.

"Credit to Lions, who played well in the first half and showed good attitude and perseverance. For us though it was a perfect start to the season. You can't argue with four goals and a clean sheet."

Corin, whose brother Greg is team manager, went on to praise striker Josh Harris who "scored a very special goal which will be remembered by the boys for a long time. He was almost unplayable today".

Reflecting on his first game in charge, Lions boss James Gershfield told JC Sport: "Hendon were far superior today.

"We started slowly and although after the first 15 minutes we started to control the game we didn't quite get a firm grip and four errors led to their goals all of which were taken very well."

Gershfield believes a lack of experience counted again the Lions. "We had a young team today and the absence of Ben Lampert, Jamie Jackson, Alex Taylor and Max Hassell really showed.

"We move on to the derby next week with a full strength squad available."
