Brian Green and Helena Green have spoken of their pride after being appointed joint-heads of delegation of Team GB at next year's JCC Maccabi Games in Fort Lauderdale.
The delegation will be looking to build on the success of this summer’s JCC Maccabi Games, where the Delegation returned from Cherry Hill, New Jersey, with a record-breaking 142 medals.
Great Britain will be competing in the following disciplines – Football (Girls and Boys), Lacrosse (Girls), Swimming (Girls and Boys), Tennis (Girls and Boys), Table Tennis (Girls and Boys) and Dance (Girls and Boys).
The application process for new summer's JCC Maccabi Games in Fort Lauderdale is now open. Applicants who fall into the U13-U16 category and who want to represent Team Maccabi GB are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
The delegation is also looking to recruit Coaches/Managers for each squad, all of whom must be over the age of 21.
"It is an absolute honour for Brian and I," said Helena Green. "We always aim to give as many Jewish kids as possible an opportunity to represent Team Maccabi GB in an international sports tournament, where they can get a taste of sporting competition, meeting other young, Jewish athletes from other countries and create memories that they will cherish forever.
"It has been very encouraging seeing the participation numbers of the British Delegation grow from 34 [in Denver in 2010] to 87 this summer in Cherry Hill. In 2015 we anticipate taking around 70 participants aged between 13 to 16 in seven separate squads."
Brian Green will also be able to draw on his 36 years of experience managing youth sports teams. He was Team
Maccabi GB’s Junior Team Manager at the European Maccabi Games in Rome in 2007 and Vienna in 2011, Sports Chair for Junior Football/Futsal at the last two Maccabiah Games in Israel, and he will be Chair of Great Britain’s Junior competitors in Berlin for the European Maccabi Games 2015.
"Our overriding goal is to see the athletes competing to the best of their abilities on the field of play, and to develop friendships off it," he said.
"The greatest testament we can give from being involved for all these years is that so many kids wish to return to compete again.
"The JCC Maccabi Games is the perfect platform to launch sporting careers of many young, Jewish athletes and we have seen a large number compete for Team Maccabi GB at the European Maccabi Games or the Maccabiah Games."
Head of Operations Ashley Lerner said: "The JCC Maccabi Games is one of the cornerstones of our International calendar. It is unique in that it gives many young athletes their first taste of sporting competition outside of the UK, and also provides them with countless Jewish experiences and friendships with fellow Jewish young people from across the world which they will always remember.”
The JCC Maccabi Games is an annual event held in America for Jewish athletes that fall into the U13-U16 category. Next August it will be held from August 6-17.
