Lions boss Tony Gold watched his team battle out a competitive goalless draw with unbeaten Cockfosters at Broxbourne’s Goff’s Oak Stadium to end a run of three defeats.
Neither side could break the deadlock despite having good chances but the Lions manager was happy with a share of the points.
"I'm really pleased that we managed to take something from the game," Gold said. "Cockfosters are unbeaten and, in contrast to us, have started the season very well.
"We've had a couple of really tough games lately and I think we should have taken at least a point when we lost to Harpenden Town.
"It's always nervy towards the end of a game when it’s 0-0. Both teams had chances and they almost nicked it at the death but for a fantastic last-ditch tackle from Danny Berg.
"We just needed something to break for us and it didn't today, which has been the story of our season so far.
"We have played really well over the past two games and if that continues then it will only be a matter of time before we make someone pay."
After a quiet opening 15 minutes, the match was suddenly lit up when Lions Aron Barnes rattled the Cockfosters bar with a rasping shot.
At the other end, Cockfosters' Dougie Kissule missed a good chance as his shot flew inches wide of the Lions far post.
Lions, however, always looked more threatening on the break but their quality in the final third failed to match the build up.
Continuing the eventful spell before the break, Josh Kennet sent a free-kick just over the visitors bar.
Meanwhile, Cockfosters twice went close themselves as the whistle approached, Anton Lewis hanging a left-wing cross up for Dan Jones who headed wide. Then Dean Adams dribbled in from the other side and set-up Jones again, whose first-time strike hit Dan Lee in front of goal.
Neither team’s fortunes changed in the second half. The closest Lions came was when Dean Nyman burst through one-on-one with Mitch Swan in the visitor’s goal, but he dragged the ball too far wide.
Then substitute Max Kyte could have won it for the Lions but blasted over when well placed in the final minutes.
That miss might have proved costly as with seconds remaining Cockfosters broke through and looked destined to nick it but Berg made a superb tackle to avert the danger and ensure a well-earned point.
Gold said: "Our next three fixtures are winnable games. We need to continue to work hard and be patient. We have played some great football in the last two games and with a little more consistency from the players the results will start to come.
