A deadly double from top-scorer James Gershfield ensured London Lions strolled through to the Herts Senior Centenary Trophy semi-finals.
Laboured performance which only really sparked into life when Jordan Marks came off the Lions bench.
On a cold day at the Rowley Lane, it needed a great individual strike from Josh Kennet to open the scoring, despite a laboured performance from the Lions.
A few choice words were shared at half-time, with manager Andy Landesberg expecting more from the team at the top of the Herts County Premier.
This was delivered in the second half, with a more dynamic display. Marks came off the bench to great effect and this pressure saw Lions double their lead with an own goal.
At the back, Nick Landesberg and Andy Glynne came out with credit and Harry Hatchwell was his usual effective self in the middle.
At the other end, Lions were being denied by some outstanding keeping from the Letchworth No.1, but Lions – and top-scorer Gershfield – were not to be denied. The Lions striker netted twice in the latter stages to complete a convincing scoreline, if not performance; and Gershfield now has 25 for the season.
Lions now go into the semi-final of a county-wide competition they have won in 2007 and 2011 – when on the latter occasion they managed to earn promotion as well.
Whilst the omens are good, Lions will need to get past fellow semi-finalists Sandridge Rovers, plus South Midlands League Wodson Park, and Essex Olympian League Bishops Stortford Swifts; who make up the last four.
