EUROPEAN MACCABI GAMES - U18 FOOTBALL
GB 3 USA 0
Simon Zamet insists Team Maccabi GB are taking nothing for granted after they cruised to a 3-0 victory in the their opening match of the under-18 football competition.
Adam Burchell calmed any early nerves by winning a penalty which he converted. He was off the field moments later as Adam Ellis was sent crashing in the penalty area, so the former Shacharit Donetsk hotshot showed ice-cool nerves to double GB's advantage.
USA battled valiantly in the second half, although a late goalkeeping error was capitalised on by Harry Marlow who made no mistake from close range.
“It was an excellent win,” said GB boss Zamet. “We looked a little anxious at the start but the boys gradually settled into a good rhythm.
Zamet praised the performances of Burchell, skipper Louis Greenham and Harry Marlow and said: “We managed to get every player in the squad on to the pitch and controlled the game. It really was the perfect start.”
