Playing their third game in five days, London Lions picked up another superb three points with a 4-0 win over Wormley Rovers.
Having lost Guy Helman through injury in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Mill End and with Sam Reeves and Alex Taylor unavailable, manager Tony Gold had to reshuffle his troops for this important fixture.
Ben Ellis, Rob Abrahams and Guy Morris returned from holiday with the latter replacing Alex Taylor at centre-half and manager Tony Gold and Scott Kay occupied the full-back positions with the latter giving Adam Lauffer a much needed rest.
The Lions started brightly and authoritatively with the early signs showing it would only be a matter of time before they opened the scoring. Dominique Cheniart who was just starting to give the Wormley defence nightmares had to leave the field of play through injury on 25 minutes after a crude tackle by the Wormley right-back. Nick Goodman replaced the injured Cheniart on the left side and put in a solid performance.
The Lions defence was well marshalled by Rob Glass and Guy Morris supported intelligently by Gold and Kay.
All of Lions' good early work was coming down their left with Goodman and Gold doubling up on numerous occasions with the latter whipping in dangerous cross after dangerous cross.
Avi Schwarz, Danny Castle and Ben Lampert were now running the show in the middle of the park with all three working tirelessly for the Lions cause. Lee Cash could have scored two quick goals in succession but be fired wide with the first and fired high with the second.
Finally the Lions pressure told with hot shot Adam Stolerman scoring a trademark finish. Just before half-time the Lions scored a second which gave them a nice cushion going into the second-half. Gold had asked his midfielders to be far more aggressive on the attack this season to see if they could chip in with a few crucial goals this season, Lampert was the first to answer his cries as he broke from midfield, composed himself and drilled a lovely shot past the Wormley keeper.
The Lions' confidence was now at full capacity and the football at times a joy to watch. Two soon became three as Stolerman fired home his second of the game virtually killing the game off as a contest.
Ellis replaced the hard working Castle in midfield to make his first senior appearance of the season and it wasn't long before he was involved in the thick of the action.
Wormley continued to battle but just couldn't penetrate the Lions rearguard and one more flowing Lions attack ended with Lampert scoring his second of the game giving the home team a well deserved Bank Holiday Monday win.
