Arthur Duke praised his Invicibles after Maccabi London Lions completed the double following a 3-1 victory over St John’s Wood Tigers in the Nathan Horwitz MMFL Division Two Cup final.
Having retained their league title with a 14-match winning run, the Lions came from behind at Silver Jubilee Park, inspired by a deadly double from man-of-the-match Danny Schindler.
SJW forged ahead but the introduction of striker Marc Morris lifted the Lions who drew level through defender Schindler.
Tigers continued to enjoy more than their fair share of possession, but lacked any real penetration, and they were eventually worn down by Lions, who took the lead through Schindler’s second, a close-range header.
The last word, inevitably, went to Morris, who nodded home from close-range.
MLL player-manager Duke said: “It was a tough game. SJT probably had about 10 years on us but we didn’t give up and kept our shape.
"In the end it was a fair result and our superior fitness told in the end. Danny played through the pain barrier to produce a man-of-the-match performance."
Reflecting on a memorable season in charge, Duke said: "It's been an amazing first season and the fact that the majority of this team has been for a couple of years has been a major factor."
