Yossi Benayoun could be heading for an emotional reunion with Avram Grant at the helm of the Israel national team, according to reports.
Grant is still mulling over an offer from the IFA to take over from Eli Gutman following the team’s aborted World Cup qualifying campaign.
Reports in Israel say that Benayoun will only accept the role of assistant-manager on a part-time basis as he is keen to continue playing in Europe and for the national team. Earlier this week Benayoun revealed that he hopes to retire from international football after leading Israel to the Euro 2016 finals. “That’s my plan,” he said.
Benayoun says he has offers from Malaga and QPR. “Pini Zahavi is pressing me hard to sign for QPR,” he said, “but at the moment I’m inclined towards moving to Spain.
"I have an offer from Malaga and we are set to agree everything. The only thing bothering me is that I won’t be able to play until January because they have their full quota of non-European players and I don’t hold an EU passport."
