David Domb was left to rue his side’s failure in front of goal as Hyde Park crashed out of the Feldman Trophy in agonising fashion.
The Leeds-based students were made to pay the penalty after missing a whole host of chances against South Manchester 2nd at Hough End.
Jack Lee’s brace ensured the hosts progressed to the quarter-finals where they will meet MJSL champions Manchester Maccabi 3rd.
But Domb, whose side's goal came through Adam Jackson in the first half, says his team must improve if they are to challenge for silverware this season.
“We had so many chances and so much attacking flair on the pitch but we didn’t make the most of it,” said Domb.
“In the end it was one of those days but I’m sick and tired of coming off the pitch at full time and saying that.
“Football wise, that’s probably the best we’ve played this season but for some reason there’s a bit of doubt in the squad.
“We’ve got a bit of a blind spot and I’m not sure why. Perhaps we’ll have to try something different in training.
“I’m still confident we have the squad to challenge for trophies this season but we need to make sure we take our chances.”
Rovers face Republic of Mancunia 1st and runaway league leaders Haroldeans in the next fortnight and Domb is hoping his side can bounce back in style.
He added: “We’ve got two big games coming up and we need to make sure we start picking up points.
“We know that we’re good enough to be up there but we need to start showing it.”
