FAITHFOLD B 2 MACCABI LONDON LIONS B 6
Charlie Cohen was the hat-trick hero as Lions B hit Faithfold C for six to close in on promotion.
Further strikes from Daniel Fattal (2) and Sam Shooter added the gloss.
Lions visited Faithfold B in what was the first meeting between the two sides after the original fixture was postponed. Lions were looking to build on their unbeaten run against a Faithfold side who were looking to spoil the party. With a storm brewing, Faithfold got the game underway.
Both sides started slowly with neither able to really gain a foothold in the game. However, it was Lions who broke the deadlock after the ball was played into Sam Shooter, appearing in his first game for Lions B, who flicked it onto Cohen who calmly slotted the ball past the onrushing Faithfold goalkeeper. 1-0 Lions.
Lions were in the ascendancy with chances coming thick and fast without much reply from Faithfold. It was then a moment of magic once again from Fattal that put Lions 2-0 up. Receiving it on the left hand side, Fattal cut in and unleashed a swerving shot that left the goalkeeper scrambling. 2-0 Lions.
Half-time came and went with MLL boss Sam Marchant asking for more of the same, but stressing the importance of the next goal. And it was Lions who came out of the blocks quickest going 3-0 up through Fattal once more, his third goal in two matches.
A lapse in concentration then allowed Faithfold to pull one back, giving them hope as the storm arrived.
Lions were then put under extreme pressure for the next 15 minutes, with Faithfold coming close on a number of occasions. However it was Lions who scored the next goal, breaking quickly allowing Cohen to score his second of the game. 4-1 Lions.
As the hail rained down, Faithfold scored again to make it 4-2 and uncomfortable for this Lions team after another lapse in concentration allowing Faithfold to score past the returning James Harpin.
However, Lions weren’t to concede again as they scored two in quick succession through Shooter and Cohen who was able to complete his hat-trick and go home with the match ball and the man-of-the-match maltesers.
Lions boss Sam Marchant told JC Sport: "It was a tough game today and Faithfold put up a real fight. We scored our first against the run of play but this really settled us down and got the wheels in motion.
"It was a physical game out there and we did what was asked of us. We're very happy with another victory and we now just move on to next week."
Lions welcome L’Equipe to the Lane next week.
