Hertswood overcame Faithfold today by a convincing scoreline, despite the opposition featuring a couple of A-team players and the game being played in treacherous conditions. Having lost to Faithfold in the reverse fixture, the Hertswood management were confident their players would be up for it - and they didn't disappoint.
Hertswood took the lead 17 minutes in. Cohen received the ball 35 yards out, and in classic style from a player who loves a speculative shot, he spotted the Faithfold keeper off his line, took one touch and belted it into the top corner.
1-0 became 2-0 just 10 minutes later as Josh Gorb floated in a corner and Cohen grabbed his second with a header.
Cohen grabbed his hat-trick and Vale's third just after half-time. Picking the ball up on the right wing, Cohen drove forward along the edge of the box, going past three Faithfold players before slotting into the top corner with a left-footed finesse. A perfect hat-trick as he doubled his tally to six for the season.
Much like Arsenal yesterday, Vale's fourth goal was a special one. Being described as "possibly the best team goal seen in MGBSFL history," this was a move that screamed tiki-taka football. Some quick one-touch passing between Cohen, Gorb and debutant Bradley Lobetta on the edge of the box found Gorb who knocked it on to Neidle who headed in his 1st goal for the Vale with the help of the post - what he was doing in the opposition box from centre-back is anyone's guess!
Faithfold scored what was described as a "sloppy goal" by co-manager Danny Hirschberger with 15 minutes to go, but the result was already secured at this point.
Hertswood joint-manager Jacob Emanuel told JC Sport: "Despite what the scoreline would suggest, this game wasn't as straightforward as many might think.
"I understand that Faithfold's midfield, consisting of a couple of A-team players controlled most of the game and possession, but ultimately, we limited Faithfold's attempts on goal and finished our own chances.
"Our fifth win of the season, and one that equals our points tally from last season. With seven games to go, and 21 available points remaining, we're aiming to continue to look up, as opposed to down."
