Ricky Curtis won the Donald Forster National Scratch competition following two fine rounds of 75 at Woodhall Spa Golf Club.
Playing in the AJGCS’s final competition of the year, Curtis of Dyrham Park, claimed the title ahead of John Lawrence.
Curtis, the pre-tournament favourite, finished the first round two shots ahead of Jeremy Bohn with a score of 77 and he maintained the lead with solid performance. He went on to finish three shots ahead of Lawrence, who matched his score on the opening round. Jeremy Bohn finished in third place, a further three shots back.
There was also a close finish in the Masters competition, with Abridge’s, Lol Green firing the best opening round score of 77. However, Mark Phillips of Chigwell went on to win the trophy with an aggregate score of 155.
He finished comfortably ahead of Gary Plein, who tied on 163 with Green, but claimed the runner-up position on a countback in a tournament featuring 34 of the best Jewish golfers in the UK.
An AJGCS spokesman said: "The event is a manifestation of our determination to address the changing world of Jewish golf whereby the imperative of previous generations to join Jewish golf clubs when faced with obstructions put up by many clubs to Jewish applicants has to great degree disappeared.
"This competition invites Jewish golfers from any club or society to participate individually rather than via the clubs affiliated to the Association.
“It was felt to be a great success, producing an atmosphere of real camaraderie together with fierce competition and the event is returning to Woodhall in September 2015."
