Belmont & Edgware (204) were beaten by one run in a nail-biter against Wycombe House (202-2). With a number of key players missing, a team containing three members of the GB Junior Maccabiah team took to the field for the Middlesex Sunday League Division Two clash.
Tight spells from Jonny Feigenbaum, Stuart Davis and Neil Myeroff restricted Wycombe House to 58-1 at the halfway point but they were let off the hook by several dropped catches and poor fielding.
BECC’s reply started solidly with Feigenbaum (39) and Jon Evans looking comfortable. At 60-1 off 14 overs, BECC had a good foundation. They moved on to 136-6 with nine overs remaining. A quickfire 44 from Richie Wienburg, brought them within touching distance of victory. The last wicket pairing of Michael Blasebalk and Myeroff required seven from five balls but with two needed from two balls, captain Blasebalk was caught.
London Maccabi Vale 1sts’ relegation woes took a turn for the worse as they were beaten by one wicket at Stanmore.
The Middlesex Sunday League Division One clash went down to the wire as LMV failed to defend a good total of 266.
Adam Brand fell five runs short of a century as he was run out. Paul Durban, Jerome Colmans and Mark Bott made useful contributions. Ryan Kangisser maintained his excellent record at The Common with three wickets. However, Stanmore batted sensibly and although a further six wickets fell, they snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.
London Maccabi Vale 2nd (75-8)maintained their Middlesex Sunday League Division Three status with a gutsy two-wicket win over West Middlesex.
Champions South Manchester Maccabi beat Bury & Whitefield by three wickets as the Northern Jewish Cricket League season drew to a close. Bowlers Harry Rosenblum and Akiva Lieberman impressed as Bury were dismissed for 122. In reply, South wobbled early on and at 58-4 Bury fancied their chances. Wickets continued to tumble around Elliot Shiers (25) as South plummeted to 63-7.
An excellent spell from Daniel Paul (4-16) was not enough as South skipper Steve Glicher and Akiva Lieberman stood firm, putting on 60 for the 8th wicket to ensure the champions finished the season unbeaten.
Andrew William and Ray Tammam were the heroes as Manchester Maccabi (111-9) beat Leeds by 20 runs.
Norman Marine took 8-29 as promotion chasing Old Cholmelians beat Old Finchleians by two wickets.
Marine, who once took 10 wickets in an innings for Casual Nomads, has taken 25 wickets in nine league games for OC, at an average of 14. A half century from Jerome Roith helped Casual Nomads (171) beat Thespian Thunders by 74 runs in a friendly. Roith (54) and captain Richard Ferrer (44) were the mainstays of the Nomads innings which ended on 171.
The father and son team of Andy (3-12) and Nick Landesberg picked up five wickets between them as the Thunders were dismissed for 91. MAL (142) suffered only their fourth defeat of the season as they went down by seven wickets against Octopus CC.
A great knock from Mikey Tilles (83) could not stop Downsiders (194) from a heavy defeat against LACC (276-4).
