CATFORD & BROMLEY MACCABI 0 ATHLETIC BILBAUM 5
Nicky Shinder saluted his Athletic Bilbaum players after they registered their fourth and most impressive victory over Catford & Bromley.
The Baums opened the scoring after a mishap between the Catford keeper and defender; the ball popped up at the edge of the box with the goalkeeper nowhere to be seen. Ed Green couldn't have asked for an easier chance and slotted the ball into the bottom left corner from 12 yards out.
The goal came at a good time for the Baums who had been on top without creating clear-cut chances.
But it wasn't until the second half that Bilbaum put real daylight between themselves and the Cats. The scond goal arrived midway through, Green was released with a smart ball by Ben Bell, picked it up just outside the box, took a few touches and from just inside the box hit a low hard left-foot shot into the bottom left-hand corner; the keeper got a touch to it but couldn't keep it out.
Jacob Brunner made it 3-0 soon after. A long throw from Eli Gottlieb released Robert Rodney who brought the ball to the byline and cut it back to an arriving Brunner to stroke it home into the bottom left corner.
The Baums continued to attack and the fourth goal saw Brunner pass the ball to Ben Bell near the halfway line. He burst past the defender then with the goalie and another defender bearing down rolled the ball between the two of them into the net with the outside of the right boot.
Bell completed the scoring with Bilbaum's fifth. Green crossed Bell who controlled and placed it into the bottom right with his left foot from the edge of the box.
Bilbaum boss Nicky Shinder told JC Sport: "It was a strong, determined and professional performance from all our players sealed an impressive victory.
"We moved as a cohesive unit from defence to attack and it brought dividends.
"We were also extremely pleased to welcome back Sebastian Silverman after a 14-month injury layoff and expect great things from him in the second half of the season.
"Now our attention moves to L'Equipe and what will be another tough fixture."
