Shota Arvedladza has been appointed as the new manager of Maccabi Tel Aviv.
The Georgian replaces Peter Bosz who recently took charge at Ajax Amsterdam. Arvedladza has reportedly signed a one-year contract worth $1 million.
In an illustrious playing career, Arvedladza scored 247 goals in 418 appearances for Glasgow Rangers, Ajax, Alkmaar, Levante, Trabzonspor and Dynamo Tblisi. He is Georgia's all-time top-scorer.
After retiring he served as assistant-coach at Alkmaar to Louis van Gaal, Ronald Koeman and Dick Advocaat and in the past five years has been manager of Turkish teams Trabzonspor, Kasimpasa, and Kayserispor.
Arvedladza's task next season will be to reclaim the Ligat Ha'Al title after Hapoel Beer Sheva ended Maccabi's run of three consecutive titles in the recently completed season.
Arveladze said: "I am really happy to be here and looking forward to meet both the players and Maccabi’s fans who are famous for filling stadiums.
"I've heard a lot about the atmosphere and so did my family and many supporters in Georgia as well.
"I know a lot about Maccabi, about its history and tradition as well as how strong and ambitious everyone in and around the club are. This is why I am so happy to be here and I can’t wait to start working."
Maccabi Tel Aviv Sports Director Jordi Cruyff commented on the appointment, saying: "We are delighted to have secured the services of the man who was one of our main targets from the moment we set out to appoint a new Head Coach.
"Shota has such a strong personality and track record in football, that we strongly believe in his ability to achieve things with this club."
