Leeds Maccabi captain Steven Berke has described how his team used an antisemitic remark to spur them on to victory.

Words were exchanged following a challenge in the Leeds & District Cup tie before a player from opponents Water Into Beer is alleged to have called Berke "a dirty Jew".

Tempers frayed and a melee ensued before Berke's teammate Dan Ross punched the player who is believed to have made the comment. Both Ross and the rival player were sent off.

Berke said: "I was disappointed to hear the comment and I reacted to it, but in truth it just spurred us to go on and win the tie.
