Okay, okay. I know I said never again after my injury-ridden experience at the 2001 London Marathon, but in the words of Steven Gerrard: "I’m ready to go again." Not a marathon this time. A fun run. And not just one run. Three. In a day.
Given recent events, I’m going to compete in the Maccabi GB Community Fun Run 1k, 5k and 10k – back-to-back. My eight-year-old son is joining me for the 5k after we breezed through the 1k 12 months ago, with my wife and two daughters opting for the shorter distance.
For those who haven’t experienced the race, you are filled with a great sense of achievement, whichever distance you opt for, and the atmosphere at Rowley Lane last year was one to saviour — the community pulling in one direction all for the name of charity.
No doubt, Allianz Park Sports Stadium in Hendon, the home of Saracens, will be rocking on June 22 and I challenge readers to match my feat — no matter what your age or fitness level. For details, go to www.communityfunrun.org.
* MS Bambi are toasting double delight after stealing the show at the Olim League’s end-of-season awards. Hotshot Aviv Zemer scooped the top player accolade, while four players from the club made the Olim Team of the Year, with Yoni Sarig claiming the top managerial prize.
Zemer said: "It’s been a great season for me. I worked hard and you can see that in our results. I want to thank to all my teammates for giving me the confidence and the motivation throughout the season."
* Supporters of Woodford, Neasden and Brady B will have their nerves tested in the final round of MGBSFL Division One games on Sunday. A win for Woodford against Brady would secure the title, while a draw should be enough to take them up as champions on goal difference, and scupper Brady’s promotion dreams.
And just down the road, Neasden will be looking to cement promotion in a tricky contest against Chigwell. They could even finish the weekend as champions, but I expect Woodford to do the business.
* After I recently bumped into Akiva Lieberman in Tel Aviv, he was keen to point out that he was indeed drinking Arak at Mike’s Place and supports the red half of Manchester.
The alcohol I can handle, but the choice of team is not something I’d really shout from the rooftops right now ...
