Two of the MGBSFL’s top talents will be on show in a super Sunday showdown as Redbridge Jewish Care B and FC Team C go head-to-head.
Only two teams – champions NLR B and Blizzard Storm – have won at fortress Fairlop this season, where recent home wins have included the following sequence of scores – 8-0, 6-0 and 5-0 – oh, and RJC thumped FC Team B 7-0 away, just for good measure, only last month.
Nathan Sollosi has been the star man for Jon Jacobs’s team this season, but his battle with Team’s James Joseph will, in my opinion, be the key battle.
Both players would walk into most Premier Division teams, and RJC fans are hoping young Nathan can produce something special as they look to finish the season in style as they mark the end of an era.
A large chunk of the east London team start university in September and gaffer Jacobs has managed most of these boys since the age of seven – integrating through Maccabi junior football into the senior game.
Indeed Sollosi was RJC’s match-winner in the first meeting between the teams, scoring twice in a 4-2 victory, with Adam Goldman and Jordan Sapler putting the icing on the cake. But that was Team’s only league defeat to date.
Team were involved in two high-scoring encounters against NLR, and with David Joseph Cohen and David James Cohen also in top form, it promises to be a great game for the neutral.
* The officials for the Peter Morrison Trophy final at Wingate & Finchley have been confirmed. Martin Lavender will be the man in the middle for the eagerly-awaited clash between Oakwood A and treble-chasing Hendon United Sports Club A. Brandon Pieters and David Lazarus are the assistant-referees, while John Feenstra is the fourth official.
* In recent years, I’ve become famed for my powers of self-restraint, but my son, eight, raised the bar when I took him to Upton Park last week, in the home end. He’s at that gloriously innocent age where he watches Sky Sports News morning and night to check the league table. And doesn’t it look great right now!
While watching Liverpool beat West Ham, he was under firm instruction not to cheer if we scored, or even encourage Suarez and Sturridge to shoot. It was tough not cheering for one penalty, let alone two.
Bigger challenges lie ahead for the Reds over the coming weeks, although my biggest one appears to be trying to find a couple of tickets for the final game against Newcastle. Now that would be a right result.
