Last Sunday was a day I won't forget in a hurry. It was something of an emotional roller-coaster as I experienced the highs and lows of the beautiful game.
My morning ended in heartbreak as North London Raiders A were undone by the brilliance of Greg Corin. It appeared that we had executed our game-plan to perfection against Hendon United Sports Club A until Corin cracked home a shot with virtually the last kick of an epic game. The boys were deflated and I felt as though I aged about 50 years over the 90 minutes.
And to add insult to injury, the same player scored an even better strike to win the tie in extra-time with an effort reminiscent of Nayim's from the halfway line against Arsenal in the Cup Winners Cup final of 1995.
Keeper Dan Cohen, who played the role of David Seaman, took it so badly that he's decided to hang up his boots, again.
So my dreams of a first trip to Wingate & Finchley, in a non-reporting capacity, will have to wait a little while longer.
There was little time to feel down in the dumps, however, as it was straight off to Wembley to watch Liverpool in the Carling Cup final.
I managed to keep it a surprise from my son, Jacob, until two hours before kick-off and I have to tell you that his face was a picture. Believe it or not, it was also the first time I had been to the famous stadium to see the Reds in a cup final and the experience did not disappoint, even if the performance and the penalties weren't the best. It was certainly a bit of a step up from our regular visits to Underhill to watch Barnet.
So he was happy, I was proud and grumpy was nowhere to be seen.
