Shahar Peer had no complaints after she was swept aside by third seed Maria Sharapova in the Ladies Singles Olympic tennis competition at Wimbledon on Sunday.

Peer started well, breaking Sharapova in the first game but the giant Russian broke back immediately before going up the gears to take the first set 6-2.

Sharapova did not let up in the second set, which she won to love, to wrap up the match in one hour and five minutes.

Peer told JC Sport: "I'm not happy because I lost the match but I tried my best. She was just better than me.

"I've been serving well for a few weeks but she tried to put me under pressure and produced some big shots.

"Sharapova is a great player and I have lots of respect for her.

"I was really excited to be playing on the Centre Court for the first time. It was a really proud moment. I tried my best until the end but it just wasn't enough today."
