Hapoel Beer Sheva reach Champions League play-off round

articlemain

A late effort from Shir Tzedek steered Hapoel Beer Sheva into the play-off round of the Uefa Champions League after they eliminated Greek winners Olympiacos.

After a goalless first leg in Greece, there was little to separate the teams at the Turner Stadium until Tzedek found the net with a cool finish to ensure it was competition new boys Hapoel who progressed.

Olympiacos had received a bye to the group stage every season since 2011/12 but Greece's falling coefficient removed that privilege and they transfer to the UEFA Europa League, in which they have played in the round of 32 for the last two years.

Hapoel are now eagerly awaiting Friday's draw in Nyon. The first legs off the play-offs will be played on August 16/17, with the returns taking place on August 23/24.
